Here's another excellent video recording training on hovering. The presentations are created with a RC helicopter, but the lessons equally obtain a quadcopter. He strains the value of also training with a simulator program. I would agree if you possess a heavier high-end quadcopter (say a DJI Phantom) which is often costly if harmed. BUT if you own a light and portable, low-end toy quadcopter (say a $40 WLToys V212), then consider that quadcopter as you're simulator. These small quadcopters are very lightweight, and therefore quite resistant to accidents, and are absolutely simply perfect for learning to soar. Here's his video.
