But I must disagree with you about the privateness concerns. This isn't even in the same ballpark as Yahoo Globe/Maps, or regular aerial photography. There are several (proved) reports of individuals hovering their camera-laden drones right outside someone's home and hotel windows. Not to mention how easy it might be to hover only a few toes out of reach over meters or any other situation where you recently (pre-drone") had a reasonable expectation of level of privacy.
The ESCs seemingly use this connections for calibration as well, and it made a large difference once I designed them this way. The motors appeared to sound a bit smoother afterward, plus they slow down very well to induce a landing once the power supply is low. Your posts are incredibly useful indeed. A good location to check out where wearable technical is going in 2015 is previous year's 'Make It Wearable' competition from Intel. An ultrasonic sensor actions the length to the bottom, i.e. altitude. That is useful if you would like to keep your quadcopter a certain distance from the ground without having to adjust the elevation it's traveling at constantly yourself.
