As mentioned, Vortex Ring Condition (VRS), aka Electricity Settling, aka Blade Stall, is common to all rotorcraft. It's came across when a rotorcraft descends vertically too quickly. From this point on, let's assume that the rotorcraft is a quadcopter. The quadcopter's propeller rotor blades may descend into the turbulent downwash beneath the build. If this occurs, the rotor blades lose some lift up, causing an even faster descent into the downwash. A vortex also begins to form in a round band (the Vortex Ring) round the blade's course of rotation. Applying throttle just increases the vortex diamond ring, eventually triggering total lack of lift up from the cutting blades.
